Hida Takayama Gyoza Sohonzan

Quirkiest bartender, tiny bar but the best gyozas in town! Loved it, 10/10 would recommend to all traveling to Takayama.

Very good, tasty and good quality price restaurant. The food was so delicious. The atmosphere and the chef was really friendly. The restaurant is quite small (max 15 seats) but it worth the wait. There is a large choice of gyozas and we tasted almost everything.

Nice gyozas, we prefered the beef and the pork. Ordering through the ticket machine was fun and easy. The artwork of previous clients was a bit of fun. Not too many seats so be prepared to wait a bit.

Amazing food! The bar is very small, it can sit about 10-13 people altogether, but the food is fantastic. You order using a machine (as is often the case in Japan), pass the ticket to the chef who then prepares your meal. The bar is famous for its gyozas, but I highly recommend the miso bowl, which I found even better. The noodles were very tasty and the broth flawless.Overall, 5 stars

Amazing restaurante! Not only the food, but also the service. The owner is the only one that cooks and provides the service in this little restaurante. We had their special dish, the gyozas and they were lovelly. The owner gave us also a souvenir in the end. If you are struggling for a place to eat in Takayama, this is the place that you should go.

Fantastic Gyoza, the best I've had in Japan! No matter how long the line, its a must. I ordered the spicy Gyoza and for extra hot, wow it was good. The owner is awesome as well.

Incredible restaurant. The food is really good for a low price, and there is an excellent atmosphere, everyone laugh together.

This place offer amazing fried dumplings (gyoza) at night. I did really enjoy his pork dumplings and hida beef dumplings. The taste of his dumplings are really different from the one I had in Sydney and I did really enjoy it tonight. You can also order some beer or sake to eat with dumplings. He also has welcome board where you can see lots of drawings from people across the world. Awsome ! ! Recommended.

All the different gyoza we ate were super delicious. I think those are the most delicious gyoza I ate until now. Plus, the tenant is really nice and adorable! We spent a very nice time dining there. A must-do in Takayama !!

A Michelin suggestion restaurant, very very deciduous soba, Hida beef rice is the must order and if oyster season then you must taste, price is quite reasonable.

10/10!!! Totally satisfied with the foods here. I ordered Miso Bamboo Noodle with Hida Beef (the original is with pork) and he gave me lots of beef on it! I was shocked but enjoying the beef tho, the taste is incredible. I also ordered Hida Beef Gyoza too and it was really good, juicy and nice. And Soy Sauce Fried Chicken is delicious too. Every food I that I tried there was delicious. I would definitely come here again if i visited Takayama in the future.Ah, and the chef is doing everything by himself. Nonetheless, the service is really good, quick, and he is full of smile! Worth waiting!

Small little place operated by a solo chef. Very nice Hida beef gyoza and also fried Hida pork gyoza. The beef stew is also very tasty and lots of order for soba as well. Very funky decor and many artwork of appreciation left by guests.

He gave us complimentary dish, the rose gyoza, and it is delicious, it comes up with this special oil which is tastyOh, all the gyoza comes up with their own sauce, no need to add otherChef/owner is very kind and humble, he gave us warm pack with cute story panel on the back of it.If I go back to Takayama, will definitely visit this restaurant again !!

A beautiful little place run by Mr. Suzuki, the Gyoza expert who delivered amazingly tasty food in a great environment, and with great service. We loved the food and him! And managed to do a nice little drawing for him to hang on the wall xD I recommend ordering at least the Gyoza set!

AMAZING SERVICE!The owner was really nice and accommodating. We first had to buy food coupon from a machine, the hand the coupon over to the owner. After we finished our tasty gyouzas, the owner gave us a paper to draw on as a sign that we had visited the restaurant. On the restaurant wall you will see drawings from people around the world who visited this place too!Also, I guess that my drawing was very attracting to the eyes(?), he even gave us souvenirs as thanks too (I got Japanese mobile straps).

Great experience to round off our visit to Takayama! Amazing Gyoza and great atmosphere! Amazing to see all the drawings hung up on the wall, and very fun to contribute to said collection! Also definitely recommend wearing the hats for a great family picture!! Delicious gyoza, I recommend just getting the recommended Gyoza set, it's more filling than you think!

In muy opinion, It is the best place to have dinner in Takayama. Not difficult to find and very good service. The owner is always at your disposition to help. Hot place in cold nights. Not expensive and very nice food.PD. Déjate de ostias y ven a cenar aquí. Precio/calidad excelente.

Amazing gyoza and super friendly service - recommended pit stop for beer and snacks!

I usually don’t write reviews but this place deserves all the hype. Hands down the best gyozas I’ve ever had and the atmosphere is just perfect. Adding to this is the absolutely lovey chef who’s managing the whole place all by himself - perfect service and always smiling. The pictures on the wall tell stories of guests from all over the world that have been here. You have to try it - it’s really THAT good!

Interesting owner, likes to interact with customers. You can have a lot of fun in yhis small resturant.The dumplings are just OK If you compare to most of Taiwan's dumplings ( my opinion only.)

This place has hands down been my favorite place to eat while staying in Japan for 2 weeks. The staff of two has been exceptional. From an enthusiastic greeting when I entered, to their interest in my travels. I’ll say, I am a white American male traveling solo and with tattoos. As polite as I’ve tried to be (and speaking as much Japanese as I can) I have been turned away at a few places due to either being foreign or having tattoos. Hida Takayama Gyoza Souhonzan made me feel so welcome. They even broke out some funny hats, we took silly photos, and I drew a picture which they already had up on the wall when I came back again for a second visit. Finally, I haven’t mentioned the food. This is the best gyoza I’ve ever had. On my first visit I tried the Hida beef and the spinach, and on the second I tried the fried Hida beef. This will be something I miss when I go back home. I know I’ll be left craving this when I leave, but I can’t recommend it enough.

This is a great place for gyoza. The chef is a 1 man show and runs the place entirely on his own. The place is small and cozy but people whip through quickly because it is so efficient. You order dumplings on the vending machine inside and apparently can take them to go as well! I'd highly recommend going there and waiting even if there is a line up

We were so happy to find this place. The gyozas are amazing. I can definitely recommend the Hida Beef ones, they have s very special taste, really delicious! The cook was very nice and friendly, thank you!

Got a very busy but interesting experience here. After your order, the owner would give you a piece of paper to draw anything you’d like to express. So we drawn the colorful dumplings which tasted really good. Strong recommend if you are not very hungry but you’d like to have something with lots of fun😉😉

Amazing food! Wide selection of different gyoza and also Ramen and other side dishes. The Ramen soup is so great!!! Funny little ordering machine. Everything with english menu also. The owner is very friendly and funny! After the meal, you can draw a picture which will end on the wall or in a picture album. International flair but still very japanese and authentic! Loved it!

Hands down best gyoza I have had. Fun little ordering machine. Cheerful and friendly owner. Watch them get made is great. We had a selection of different type, all delicious. Not too much seating so get in early or you might have to wait if it is a busy night.

Would highly recommend eating here if you’re in Takayama. Everything was delicious - especially the miso bamboo noodles and hot/spicy gyoza soup (though this was a special). The owner is incredibly accommodating and was very nice to all the foreign tourists. I also loved the visitor board displaying all the drawings and artworks from guests!

I don't usually leave reviews, but the owner and chef of this gyoza spot went above and beyond for my husband and I, giving us multiple thoughtful gifts throughout our meal, edible and otherwise. Even on top of the delicious gyoza, we were charmed and left smiling. Thank you for the wonderful experience.
